Festival Interfaith Conference

On 21st February more than 120 people attended the festival conference at St Mary’s Church in the centre of Slough. The afternoon was hosted by Dr Carolyn Boulter, High Sheriff of Berkshire, and chaired by Zafar Ali of Slough Equalities Commission. Delegates heard reports on the Borrow-a-Person events from Emel Soylu of ABB and Gaynor Baveystock from Slough Library, followed by video interviews with Round Table participants, introduced by David Sparrow of ABB.

Unfortunately, Sarah Perceval, who was due to run a storytelling workshop during the afternoon, was unable to attend due to being involved in a car accident that morning – we hope to welcome Sarah on another occasion. In place of the workshop, participants took part in a number of mini round-table discussions.

After the break, we welcomed a panel of guests to answer questions from the floor on faith matters. The panel comprised Jaswant Singh Gidda of the Indian Welfare Society of Slough, Meera Javed of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, Dilowar Hussain Khan of the Muslim Council of Britain, Jay Lakhani of the Hindu Council and Alan Wilson, Bishop of Buckingham.

With the business of the afternoon over, there was opportunity to chat and eat together, entertained by pianist Brian Neal.
